Safety and Security

Safety

· Automatic External Defibrillator: (AED) are located in the Champagne Lounge. Several of our staff have been trained to use them.

· Daily Status Check: A mid-morning door check is made each day by a staff member to confirm resident has opened their front door. (This is determined when a small indicator, placed in the “up” position by the gatehouse attendant during nightly security rounds, has fallen to the “down” position.) If the indicator is still up, a call is made to the unit by the Concierge and, if there is no response, a staff member goes into the unit with an emergency key to check on the well-being of the occupant. Participation in this program is entirely voluntary. If you do not wish to be included, please sign a waiver form obtainable from the Administration office.

· Entry Gates: Entrance barriers remain closed 24 hours a day. The front (west) barriers allow both entrance and exit: the rear (east) gates are for exit only. Barrier gates close automatically after each vehicle passes thru. A directory panel is provided for guests to contact residents to gain access. Remote controls are issued to owners for gate access.

· Gatehouse: The gatehouse at the entrance to the Chateau is staffed from 5:00p.m. through 8:30a.m. Duties of the gatehouse attendants include answering the telephone, monitoring incoming vehicles, keeping a watchful eye on the community during evening hours, delivering authorized communications and summoning help in emergencies.

· Pull-Cords: Located in the bathroom(s) and hallway of each condominium, and in the restrooms and some other common areas in the Community Center. The system is monitored in the Assisted Living 24 hours a day. Cords should not be tied up but should reach the floor to allow activation in case of a fall.

· Smoke Alarms: Each condominium, and all common areas, are protected by sprinklers. The common area smoke detectors automatically activate an alarm in the Assisted Living. The alarm system may also be activated from pull-handles in the hallways. The fire alarm system is tested the first Wednesday of each month between 10:00a.m. and 11:30a.m.

· Speed Limit: 10 m.p.h. within the Chateau community. Please drive carefully.

· Elevators: In the event of an elevator should fail to operate, you can summon help by picking up the telephone from the call box located in each elevator. The phone will automatically summon Chateau staff. In the event of a power failure, a battery pack will enable the elevator to descend to the ground floor and the doors to open. Elevators should not be used in case of fire, earthquake or other disaster. Use the stairway.

· Emergency Lighting: Always provided in hallways, stairwells and the Community Center. The Assisted Living is equiped with an emergency generator system which operates selected equipment used only in Assisted Living rooms.

· Fire Extinguishers: Nearly 50 fire extinguishers are located throughout the community
