Fitness & Leisure Service Fitness: · General Description: All Chateau fitness and wellness programs are designed to help residents maintain their independence by stimulating their mental, physical and physiological abilities. New programs are routinely researched, developed and introduced to keep the curriculum fresh and innovative, and residents motivated and challenged. · Exercise Programs: Classes include, but are not limited to: Yoga, Walking Groups, Offsite activities Balance Classes Strength Conditioning · Fitness and Wellness Workshops: Special topics such as “Simple Exercises and Stretches for Home Application”, “Enhancing Your Memory”, and “How to Use a Walker Correctly”, are periodically taught by the Fitness Director or other qualified lecturers. Notice of these workshops may be found on Channel 3 and in the monthly Schedule of Events. · Personalized Training: Residents have unlimited access to free personalized training in our state-of-the-art Fitness Center, located on the 2nd floor of the Community Center. Intermittently scheduled orientation classes acquaint residents with equipment and procedures. Upon receiving approval from you primary care physician, the Chateau’s certified Fitness Director will create a customized exercise plan with various elements intended to: · Increase physical strength, stamina, range-of-motion and balance · Improve posture, physical appearance and self-confidence · Improve the quality of sleep and general feeling of well-being · Possibly decrease blood pressure and reduce medications Leisure:
· Activities: Leisure Services comprise a broad spectrum of activities, excursions and events available to residents and their guests including: Off-site series events – such as Lawrence Welk Resort Theatre, Avo Playhouse, Lyric Opera San Diego, Palomar College Performing Arts and San Diego Symphony. Off-site special events – limited engagement performances such as Riverdance, Traditions of Christmas, Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey Circus and The Palm Springs Follies Off-site special interest excursions – usually half-day or day trips, (possibly with a meal included), to places of specific interest such as the Gemological Institute of America, Art Alive at the San Diego Museum of Art, the Scripps Aquarium, the Miramar Air Show or a lobster lunch and shopping in Baja, Mexico. On-site special presentations – lectures, workshops, recitals, shows, etc. such as San Diego Wild Animal Park’s Animal Express, Foreign Policy Association’s Great Decisions discussion group series, fashion bazaars, travel shows, and more. On-site special celebrations - in conjunction with Food Services, a host of special parties and celebrations are planned over the course of the year which may feature cocktails or wine and hors d’oeuvres, special menu and décor, entertainment and more, presented in the Chateau’s beautiful dining facilities. Some of these special parties include: Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, Fourth of July, the Chateau’s Anniversary Dinner, Holiday Décor Party, and New Year’s Eve. Other on-site activities – residents meet regularly for a wide variety of recreational activities such as party and duplicate bridge, handcrafts, bingo, board games and Bible study. A current list of these activities is posted on every ground floor bulletin board adjacent to the elevators. · Sign Up Sheets and Tickets: Located in the Special Events Book at the Activities desk behind Reception. Tickets are ordered and pre-paid on a first come, first served basis. Residents are financially liable for all charges incurred by the Chateau on their behalf. Pre-purchased tickets are the responsibility of the person for whom they were purchased, although the Administrative Office will help with re-sale where possible, if requested in advance.

April Fitness Offsite Activities April Fitness News VOLLEYBALL ON THE LAWN Monday, April 4 @ 3:00 p.m. Chateau Lawn Play “volleyball” outdoors with your neighbors! We’ll play 6 people to a team - 6 chairs on each side of the net. The “volleyball” will be a beach ball or other, similar, ball. This is easy to play and a great way to get some exercise! Snacks will be served - come on out and play or just observe and cheer! WII BOWLING Tuesdays, April 5 & 19 @ 2:30 p.m. Champagne Lounge Join Sam for Wii Bowling!! Studies show that Wii bowling improves balance, coordination and strength, but perhaps the greatest benefits come from just having fun! If you haven’t tried this yet, now is the time! You can bowl seated or standing - this game is appropriate for all fitness levels (and pro bowlers as well as novices). Best of all, no smelly bowling shoes and the “ball” is guaranteed to be your size! WALK & LUNCH @ KARL STRAUSS BREWERY Wednesday, April 6 @ 10:00 am. Carlsbad Gorgeous flower field and ocean views are the highlight of this walk near the Karl Strauss Brewery in Carlsbad. Walk as long as you like, there are plenty of benches to rest and take in the sights when you need a break. Stimulate your appetite for a delicious burger or other terrific fare at the nearby Karl Strauss Brewery and Restaurant. FITNESS MACHINES 101 Friday, April 8 @ 3:00 p.m. Chateau Fitness Center We are fortunate to have a great set of fitness machines in our Chateau Fitness Center. Take this opportunity & learn to use our fitness equipment safely and effectively. I will explain which muscle groups each machine targets & demonstrate how each machine works. There will also be handouts to allow you to begin a fitness program on your own. EXERCISE ON THE LAWN Wednesday, April 13 @ 9:00 a.m. Chateau Lawn Morning fitness classes take to the great outdoors! Be prepared to have so much fun that you won’t even know it’s exercise!! Everyone is welcome - especially you folks who have never tried a Chateau exercise class, because this one includes a free breakfast!
